The Sports and Leadership League (SLL) was established in 2014 through a five year partnership between the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BGCO) and the Ottawa Senators Foundation. The SLL is Ottawa’s only FREE, year-round competitive sports program for youth ages 6-18. It focuses on skills development, leadership, and teaching the importance of responsible and healthy competition whilst providing a healthy and safe environment for Members to have fun playing sports. As the core program of the BGCO’s Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyle program pillar, the SLL is offered in all seven Clubhouse locations.

Members participate in five main sports: Ball hockey, basketball, soccer, baseball and “Walk This Way”. Members also have the opportunity to participate in other sports clinics, excursions and special events. ThSLL offers trained coaches, awards nights, uniforms, and certified officials (coaches must adhere to training and code of conduct guidelines in the spirit of community respect and integrity).e  There is no fee for youth who participate annually, and all equipment and transportation is provided by the Boys and Girls Club.

SLL currently serves over 1,500 Members from 18 neighbourhoods across the city of Ottawa. Some highlights of the program include skills competitions and all-star games as well as an annual Leadership Retreat and Awards banquet.
